In the heart of the green county of Carmarthenshire, the Caerfyrddin town (Welsh name of Carmarthen) has an amphitheater from the Roman era, a medieval castle and an old restored railway. Just outside the historic center of this picturesque corner of Wales, hills and woods of the Red Motor Valley welcome competitors. This place has become a reference for all off roaders.
From 4th to 6th of March, a great race was held at this legendary site. The Welsh Xtrem 2016, first leg of the all new European Extreme Championship – Europe Extreme Challenge. This race is for charity, organized by Jason Nobby Morgan and his team, it hosted 30 teams.
The WXT 2016 started on Friday afternoon with two tests that have seen drivers and co drivers face a fierce night stage. Fist day was won by one of legendary Gigglepin Defenders, no. 960 Allen Sharp and Ben Turpie followed by Anderson/Pierce and Smith/Papworth.
“Creating hope using winch rope” is a motto of the Welsh Xtrem! And believe it or not, Saturday was all about that. Two super special sections with lots and lots of mud, slopes and all kind of forest obstacles. It was hard to follow the signs and choos the ideal route to finish the stage. Wll actually, thre was NO ideal route. Smith and Papworth showed excellent performance on Saturday and won the daily challenge.
Circuit race was held on the final day of the competition, once again, the Welsh mud was just unimaginable. Mud and slippery ground have indeed made the challenge even more demanding than expected. After the start, a steep uphill route demanded continuous winch maneuvers to overcome extreme steps. The Sunday podium awarded the best lap to Anderson/Pearce followed by Sharp/Turpie and Smith/Papworth.
The race was eventually won by Smith and Papworth who won a free participation for the Wild Boar Valley Challenge in October (Croatia).
The first leg of Europe Extreme Challenge promises a very exciting season, despite the extreme weather conditions, Jason Nobby Morgan and his staff did their best.
