The King of Portugal 2016 received this year about 37 teams from 16 countries. After France and Italy, Emanuel Costa continues to lead in the Ultra4 Europe 2016 Championship.King of Portugal did not bring too much problems for the Portuguese pilot. The track is very technical. Areas such as Dinosaur eggs, Quarry or Turtle present difficulties that seem impossible to solve, but Ultra4 vehicles are built for that and teams love the challenge.
The organization led by the experienced Jose Rui Santos has has been working hard throughout the year so that everything is ready for everyone and the truth is that the entire Staff has performed with great accuracy and professionalism.
After technical verifications, famous tests of the King Off-Road Shocks was held. Later on, the prologue decided the starting order for the real race!
Emanuel Costa did the best time of the day in a prologue, very strong and with a very nice public help. Followed by Ciani, Big Rock, Forsaj Club and Team WSR.
The highlight of the prologue was Mecalazo team’s accident after a rollover and the co-pilot being carried into the hospital. In the first moments we suspected the worst once when the car turned he put his hand out and crushed his fingers, fortunately it is possible to recover after operation. We wish him a quick recovery.
On Friday, a 18 km long test was not good for Emanuel Costa who had problems with his car. With damage to the car, is the Team Gigglepin and the Team WSR that take advantage and force a truly incredible progress. The passage of both at the Dinosaur Eggs was awesome and they show a big difference to other drivers. Team Emanuel Costa lost more than 1 hour in this first day.
At the end of the first day of race:
1. Jim Marsden [2:42:03]
2. Team WSR [3:01:45]
3. Enrico Grafas [3:46:21]
4. Jorge Araújo [4:03:23]
5. Emanuel Costa [4:07:22]
6. Antonio Calçada [4:11]
Saturday starts with some casualties but we are ready for another day of King Of Portugal 2016. Saturday was challenging for everyone and turned over everything. At the end of lap 3 Gigllepin Team was forced to abandon the race with transmission problems. The same happened with Team WSR a few minutes later, they both made it back but with more than 1h 30m too late. It thus became clear to Emanuel Costa to manage and take the car to the end and try to win the King of Portugal 2016.
The next Ultra4 and final race will take place in Covington Camp in England from 07 to 09, October
