The Rallye d’Algérie 2016 has just finished recently. Started in Algiers and reached its finish line always in the Algerian capital after more than 2300 chilometers and 7 legs, this edition of the rally saw more than 70 teams, 40 in moto/quad class and 30 in car/SSV/truck class.
Organised by ARAK Sport and Fasm (Fédération Algérienne des Sports Mécaniques), to win the competition in moto class was Marco Iob, Team Honda Rally RsMoto, with his CRF 500, at his first experience in a rally raid in Africa. «A beautiful adventure – says Marco – I learned that here is better to use my head instead of speed, that the stages are won if you are able to wait and that advantage time must be well managed».
In the general car ranking and in T4 category (truck), first classification went to another Italian driver, Marino Mutti, on board of Mercedes Unimog U400. «A very nice path to have fun – tells Mutti – Especially the loop stage Hassi Messaoud – Hassi Messaoud I will remember for a long time: I took a great satisfaction to win in this leg. But also El Meniaa – El Meniaa was really interesting: I admit that the departure among the dunes was pretty busy and I started with the idea to go slow..but at the end I found myself running with Unimog at 120 km».
At the second place, Roberto Tonetti and Fina Roman Aguilera on Yamaha YXZ1000R, first in SSV category and in third placement the Algerian crew Gueddouda/Gueddouda with Toyota Hilux. This year’s event was really a hard competition liked by pilots and co drivers for technical paths. For someone this rally is a «real race» for different kinds of land, spirit of aggregation and difficulties in navigation and, not least, the style: sure to be improved but very similar to that of African races of the past.
