Rainforest Challenge in Malaysia, one of the hardest off road competitions in the whole world.
We could say that RFC in Italy has become a part of the Malaysian challenge, it is very famous in Europe thanks to the grueling wet terrain, slopes and thick forest.
The race is held in province of Gorizia near the border with Slovenia. Not enough water this year but the mud was thick and heavy, as we’ve been told.
Rainforest Challenge Italy was held last weekend. 27th to 29th of April.
24 teams participated, from Austria, Slovenia, Spain, Italy, France and Germany .
9 teams in “Extreme” Class, 15 teams in “Preparati” Class.
It’s surprising but only one Extreme Class team wasn’t able to finish the race, usually this number rises to at least 30% of participants.
The mechanical failure of the unlucky Land Rover was actually quite common, their hydro steering was damaged. But that didn’t stop them, the real problem were the broken axle shafts and winches.
In Prep Class everyone finished the race.
The Rainforest Challenge Italy awards both 1st place teams (Prep and Extreme Class) with a free attendance fee for Rainforest Malaysia, unfortunately this years edition was the last one to do so.
Prep Class ranking
- Manuel Re / Moreno Segat – Nissan
- Marco Zanuttini / Ivaldi Calligaris – Land Rover
- Alessio Piccoli / Roberto Piccoli – Toyota
Extreme Class ranking
- Johann Eibenteiner / Harald Deutchmann – Jeep
- Patrick Schoffman / Martin Glanzer – Jeep
- Lorenzo Savini / Romeo Manzan – Land Rover
Three days and 32 kilometers of hardcore fight are behind us.
This was the 10th anniversary of the Rainforest Challenge Italy. It was born out of love and experience.
Eventually, GFI Sant Andrea off road club decided to organize something connected to Malaysian RFC and the success was inevitable.
