Kirton off road Rampage 2015 in Kirton Off Road Centre (UK) has finished. The competition was unbeliveable and a proper twin to the original shortcourse Ultra4 racing in the US. We interviwed Will Overton to tell us more about this event.

Will overton kirton offroad rampage 2015Will Overton aka Willo is a social, media and marketing manager for Ultra4 Europe. Since joining Jim & Gigglepin at KOH, he has been working with Pier to help promote Acerni Racing and just recently with the help of the Acerni family he managed the Social, media and marketing for the Ultra4 Europe Maxxis Tyres King of Italy event.

W.O.R.M, Willo’s Off-road Media is a page created to try to document events in real time using a network of friends around the world to contribute. WORM is a developing business, not only confined to displaying photos and video, we cover Team media solutions, from making websites right up to writing press releases, taking and editing video along with stills images. With Acerni Racing and now Ultra4 Europe, I will use WORM as a platform to help increase their audience.

Here’s a few questions we asked Will…
1. The news about the rampage was so sudden.
What was the point of the race and what does it mean for 2016 calendar?

Ha! yes it was all a bit sudden and I am unable to comment on what happened before me. However going forwards I can tell you this. Ultra4 Europe prides itself as a premium level offroad motorsport organisation. We recognise that in order to build the racing into mainstream events we need to work on pulling a crowd. The more people that are talking about Ultra4 racing in Europe, the more it will get noticed, Rampage was the brain child of Ultra4 Europe safety director Rich Crossland as a take on the American Ultra4 series short course events. Short sharp intense racing that can be viewed by a big crowd. Also something we can hold at virtually any site across Europe, as the pace of the action determines the severity not the actual terrain and besides, we can bring in jumps like Robby Gordons Stadium super trucks have for example.

2. Kirton Off road Rampage 2015 wasn’t an official Ultra4 Europe race. But the rules were the same, right?

Yes and no, or no and yes. #Rampage15 was an Ultra4 Europe event although not part of the  series, it was a test event to see if its viable to run more short course style racing in the future.

3. Could you tell us more about the concept?
Yes we propose, following fantastic feedback from this weekend from Marketing Partners, Competitors and spectators to run a series of 8 races over 4 weekends (2 rounds per weekend) at 4 venues in 2016. The maximum course length will be no more than 3km and there will be multiple laps of this 3km course. There will be prize money available.

We have also partnered with the MCF (MC Federation) for 2015, they insure our events and where possible these short course events will also host racing with motorcycles, quads and atv’s although not all at the same time. The motorcycles in particular have a big following and we hope that our Ultra4 racers with their 5-6-700hp engines will be something that adds to the spectacle and entertains the crowds.

The MCF also bring to the table the “my laps” timing system. We tested it this weekend and its a fantastic tool, competitors and fans can now see live telemetry as it happens, including fastest lap times, number of laps remaining etc etc. Its a globally used tried and tested system that we are now integrating into all of our races.

4. Looking at the photos… it seems like pure offroad magic happened. So Kirton center served well?
Kirton is a fantastic location for this type of event and the guys that run the site are eager to promote Ultra4 Europe. The site has great viewing for spectators and is served by 4G cell reception for the most part.
During the race a little breeze wouldn’t have gone amiss this weekend to carry the dust away.

5. We haven’t seen any famous teams, but there were many new vehicles. How many competitors was there? Do you think we’ll see them in Portugal and Wales?
We had 16 vehicles entered, not as many as we had hoped but it’s a start, they are all very happy with the event and are now excited to come to more Ultra4 Europe events. In order to not detract from King of events in Europe, we will insist that short course competitors must enter one King of event in the season.
In 2016 calendar, this Ultra4 Europe short course racing will be like hitting a jackpot. We are very happy with the results and it will be a significant change for the next season.
See you in Wales :) August 6th to 9th
