The weather was mild once again in France, at the Ironman Challenge Montmorin 2015.
Slopes, pools of muddy water and rocky terrain offered one hell of a fight for the crews coming from all over Europe to compete in a short but one of the hardest 4×4 events of Europe.
Was this really the last edition of the X-Trem France? After ten years of incredible success. That’s what the organizer Gilles Girousse announced during the awards ceremony.
That would b a pity because the race of Montmorin, in the French region of Hautes Alpes, has become a legend thanks to the particular geological terrain.
It is one of the hardest and most challenging of the European landscapes.
Thursday, after the technical inspection, Ironman Challenge Montmorin 2015 has opened its doors with a special night stage. Some of the teams had difficulties immediately.
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the real competition continued. With over 35 special stages, divided into categories (black, red and yellow) according to difficulty. These special stages
were repeated once again but in the other direction.
Undisputed star of the event was Jim Marsden, sailed by Helder Rocha. After a bad start on Friday they were 7th overall. On Saturday they climbed to 2nd place. And Sunday was their day.
But we can’t argue with the fact that Syre/Syre team earned their rock solid second place in their Toyota.
When both teams are equally good, one right choice is enough to make all the difference.
In France, it was Team Gigglepin. Next time, who knows!
After all, Gilles Girousse and his team are the real winners. They offered a spectacle worth menthioning for years. But the best part was the celebration. All participants “laid down their weapons” and enjoyed the end of a great weekend.
After this exciting and adrenaline-filled weekend, where the show was definitely not missed. What remains is a fantastic and beautiful memory written with a permanent marker in our hearts and in those of all who can say “I was there!”.
Hopefully, Gilles will change his mind and give us another great experience next year.
