Less than a month after finishing the new Gigglepin #69 racing car, Jim Marsden won the GRAF Adventure Series along with his copilot Alex Wilson. This was the second race for the “new lady in Jim’s life”. And it was a real success thanks to the great performance of the team and the vehicle itself.
23 racing cars came together to compete last weekend at the GRAF Adventure Series in Montalegre, Portugal. Spectators got quite a show as Proto vehicles took on in a head to head competition on a hardcore terrain divided into 36 special stages.

Jim Marsden and Alex Wilson racing on day#3 of the GRAF Adventure Series 2016!

Here’s a short description of the race day #3. Jim Marsden, the winner of the GRAF challenge wrote a nice short report, we wanted to share it with you.

“Day 3 arrived with a 10km liaison stage to the base of a huge dam. The river runs through the valley and the angry waters have left millions of massive boulders. It’s the perfect play ground!
6 stages of varying insanity await the 30 teams. It’s simple, post the fastest times you can. It started well and were soon into an early rhythm. Then we arrive at our third stage and it goes to hell!

We start well but get caught in a rock as we enter the river. Alex dives out to help, slips on a rock and disappears in the crystal waters. Our radios are clearly not waterproof and we lose coms. This is not good… To add to this I am concerned a locker pipe has split and I manually switch off the cooling fans to listen for leaks.

Minutes pass until we break free of the river but disaster strikes as the engine is now overheating as I forgot to turn the fans back in!! To make matters worse the engine throws a fault and locks the gearbox in third gear! We need some quick thinking and fast! Alex is awesome finding lines and soon we are out and trying to work out what the hell happened!

It was a lucky escape from a bad situation. The rest of sections went to plan although not as fast as we would hope. A great day to survive and looking forward to tonight’s 3 nightstages”

The Wild Boar Valley Challenge, Croatian off road race held in a small town of Buzet offered a friendly opportunity to the ORGA of the GRAF Adventure Series 2016, it is nice to know that Jim Marsden and Alex Wilson won a free participation for the WBVC 2017. Good luck and welcome to Buzet in October 2017.

With one of the most exciting rounds of racing so far this season, things were looking good. Fortunately, the GRAF Adventure Series rose to the challenge with another batch of great races, we had an opportunity to witness some truly spectacular driving skill by some of the top European off-road racers. With some of our championship battles coming right down to the wire, there was a real palpable sense of tension in Montalegre. It is amazing to have the freedom of being able to throw caution to the wind and really push hard for an individual race win.

Fans packed around to watch the drivers tackle this challenging, technical terrain, and those fans were treated to some fantastic racing, as quality, pulse-pounding competition was seen amongst the frontrunners in every Special stage of the GRAF Adventure Series 2016.
