Dakar 2017: Stage 6 cancelled due to bad weather

After shortening the fifth stage (Tupiza – Oruro) yesterday, organizers of the Dakar Rallye 2017 decided not to continue with the next stage. Due to bad weather in Oruro, the 6th stage is cancelled for all categories. It means that the teams will now how a two day rest (Sunday is the official rest day).

After six stages, the overall leader is Stephane Peterhansel with his amazing driving skills. This guy keeps surprising me, it seems he is destined to rule the Dakar “forever”.

Sebastien Loeb was won the 5th stage, but Peterhansel moved to first place overall. Cyril Despres now stands third. Peugeot has four cars in the Top 10 now, an amazing performance for them. X-Raid Mini did the same a few years ago and I thought they were invincible… But everything comes to an end sooner or later.

All of the big players had some navigational problems on the fifth stage, Mikko Hirvonen lost more than half an hour and is on 5th place with 42 minutes off the lead.

1. Peterhansel / Cottret – Peugeot
2. Loeb / Elena – Peugeot
3. Despres / Castera – Peugeot
4. Roma / Haro – Toyota
5. Hirvonen / Perin – Mini

8. Villiers / Zitzewitz – Toyota

10. Dumas / Guehennec – Peugeot
