Dakar 2016: Crash & Rollover – Double trouble for Peugeot

After a serious crash and a rollover, Loeb lost overall lead of the Dakar Rally 2016. That’s a shame after such a promising performance. It seems the predictions were correct, Loeb and Hirvonen, ex WRC drivers aren’t experienced enough for the real Dakar terrain! In addition, Peterhansel is under investigation for ilegal refueling at Stage 8.

Loebs accident occured on a very hard “Dakar style” terrain. According to the interview, Loeb said there was a hole he didn’t see 10 kilometers before the end of the stage. The hole threw the car off balance. They destroyed a lot of stuff on their Peugeot and had to change the transmission and two wheels.

Sebastian is sure there is no chance for him to be in Top 3 overall. “But that’s life”, he said.

Loeb and Elena finished the stage but very slowly. They had to change a lot of stuff but they still managed to race to the end and are now 8th overall

Nasser Al-Attiyah ended Peugeot’s winning streak. It seems there is a chance for the Qatari to win the rally.

Peterhansel is now leading overall but he is under investigation for ilegal refueling on the stage. “The refuel point was marked in the roadbook”, he said. But X-Raid doesn’t agree, according to them, the refueling point was there just for motorbikes and quads.

301 Giniel de Villiers / Dirk von Zitzewitz – Toyota. Second place for them last year. They are 7th overall now!

To sum it up, if Peterhansel gets a penalty, he will lose overall lead and I am sure Nasser will do anything to use that. Nasser is 12 minutes behind Sainz who will be first overall if Peterhansel gets a penalty and loses lead. We’ll see what happens, the battle is now really heating up!
