We recently compiled a short list of events you should visit before summer. We made a mistake. Big mistake. We forgot to include the Croatia Trophy Italian Experience 2016. This was the first edition of CT Italian selections. Works in a same way like the Malaysian Global Series, the winner from Italy gets a free participation for the “mother” event – the Croatia Trophy 2016 in May. In addition to that, various other prizes were prepared by great sponsors. The weekend was great, unfortunately we couldn’t visit the race but our partners Damiano d’Ambrosio and Paolo Baraldi did what we were supposed to do.
And finally, the first edition of the Croatia Trophy Italian Experience started, first teams arrived and they were all welcomed by the organization and the director of the Croatia Trophy Igor Božiković. He formalized the event with his presence, it was a sign of a serious recognition.
Last teams arrived next morning, guests from Austria and Slovenia too. It would be a shame to miss such a great event. After all, the point of our favorite sport is to have fun.
You would expect the prologue to be somewhat easier than the rest of the race… and you would be wrong. The prologue looked like a short-course Croatia Trophy. It was a short but very intensive stage. To dive in mud full throttle with everything locked and loaded … priceless. From this day on we will try to capture every edition of this event. The history begins. Winner of the prologue is team Eibensteiner/Deutshmann (Austria), followed by Petean/Medeot and Collarini/Koci in their heavily modified Ultra4 buggy.
Next day of racing was simply beautiful, action started early in the morning. Four special stages, each 7,5 kilometers long. Swamps, forests, obstacles and lots of lockers and winching. Mother nature gave us rain for ten days. Serious amount of water prepared the terrain perfectly, 70 percent of teams just couldn’t finish the stages on time. Igor looked very happy, this event looks exactly as the Crotia Trophy.
Teams are tired, mechanics are tired, cars need repairs. It’s not easy. Due to exhaustion, some of the top teams made mistakes. To choose speed instead of strategy… Not the best idea ever.
Only 7 of initial 19 teams started the race on Sunday. With many crews out of the game and with the steering failure that delayed Cognini, the fight for victory in the Trophy category was between Collarini, the Austrian Eibensteiner and Petean from Italy. From the early stages of the race, Luciano Collarini seemed credited for the win. The rupture of an engine belt tensioner has placed him on the third step of the podium. Petean and Medeot finished second and the victory and the free pass for the Croatia Trophy 2016 went to the Austrians Johan Eibensteiner and Harry Deutschmann. In the category Adventure, the victory and free membership to Croatia Trophy 2016 went to Claudio and Marco Giorgi who knew how to handle and their vehicle and the Croatia Trophy Italian Experience 2016.
